Bethany church of Christ in Franklin, Kentucky is a small, rural congregation. We offer worship that is based on nothing else but the Bible. It is the simple but powerful word of God that is our foundation.  Our goal is to glorify and please God in contrast to the world which seems to be more interested in entertainment and to be pleasing to men.  The congregation at Bethany dates back to at least 1898. The old church building, which is now used for fellowship purposes was constructed just before the turn of the century.  Before the building was erected, some ten or twelve members met for a while in a cabin on the land of Dr. J. H. Herrington, who donated the land on which the present buildings now stand.

Some of the early leaders of the congregation included bretheren Gaines, James Bush, James Faulkner and Lovelace. Among the first preachers to speak at Bethany church of Christ were bretheren M.H. Northcross, David Lipscomb, Friend, James Harding, M.L. Moore, Walker Karnes and L.L. Yeagley.  When Potter's Children Home was a Bible School, many of its students came to preach on Sundays; among the young men who came were the Tallman brothers.

At one time, due to travel conditions, a few members met in a building located north of Temperence, called Yokley's Grove.

Due to the growth in the congregation, it was necessary to construct new facilities; first services were conducted in the present church building on December 7, 1969. The old building was moved to its present location to be used for fellowship gatherings and class facilities as needed.

Ministers who have served the Bethany congregation have been Paul Hodges, G.C. Bucy, Charles Myers, Walter Sexton, Ray Frizzell, Jr., Mark Hearn, James Parker, Don Smyth, Bob McKenzie, Clifton Fox, Gordon McKool and Johnny Tucker.

The future of Bethany church depends upon the interest, faith, and active involvement of each member of the congregation. May we all accept the challenging opportunities which present themselves to the end that many souls may be won to Christ, His name glorified among men and each of us built up in the most holy faith.
